Our guides come from two honest sources: hands-on testing of products we've personally bought and used, and deep research into published specs, verified Indian buyer reviews, and India-specific conditions — Mumbai humidity, Delhi dust, Tier 2 city service networks, Indian voltage. We tell you which is which on every guide.
Most Indian product content either copies specs straight from Amazon listings or translates international reviews that never accounted for Indian conditions. We try to do better on both tracks we publish. For products we've personally bought — a handful so far, including running shoes we've actually trekked in, our own washing machine, an air duster we use for PC cleaning, and the keyboards we type on daily — we write from direct, dated experience: real prices paid, real timelines, real problems if there were any. For the much larger set of guides built from research, we go deeper than copying a spec sheet: cross-referencing Amazon India bestseller and verified-purchase review data, manufacturer documentation, long-term-use and teardown videos from Indian YouTube reviewers, and India-specific factors like hard water TDS for purifiers, voltage fluctuation tolerance, and Tier-2 city service network availability. We label which track each guide is on rather than blur the two together.
Steps 1, 2, 6 and 7 apply to every guide. Steps 3 and 4 — buying and hands-on testing — only apply to the products we've personally purchased; the rest are built entirely from step 2's deep research instead, and we say so on the guide.
We shortlist products by combining Amazon India bestseller data, Google Trends India search volume, and Indian community feedback. Most categories cover 5 to 8 shortlisted products.
For every guide, hands-on or researched, we dig into the category-specific technical specs that matter for India — TDS levels for water purifiers, tropical compressor ratings for refrigerators, BIS certification for electrical devices, ambient temperature ratings for air coolers. This means manufacturer documentation, Amazon India verified-purchase reviews, YouTube teardown and long-term-use videos from Indian reviewers, and cross-referencing specs across multiple retailer listings to catch discrepancies. For research-track guides, this step is the whole foundation of the write-up, not a supplement to hands-on testing.
For the products we hands-on test — 10 so far, growing over time — we buy them ourselves from Amazon India or local stores at full retail price. We do not accept free products from brands, ever. Guides on the research track skip this step entirely and are built from step 2 instead, clearly labeled as researched picks rather than personal reviews.
For the products we've personally bought, we use them for real, day to day, before writing about them — not a quick unboxing. Our Mumbai base gives us high-humidity, high-temperature urban Indian baseline conditions. This step doesn't apply to research-track guides, since there's no physical product in hand to test.
Kitchen appliances are tested on real Indian recipes — atta kneading, coconut grating, chutneys, dal vada batter. Electronics are tested during Mumbai commutes, 3-hour gaming sessions in non-AC rooms in summer, office video calls with street noise. Personal care is tested on Indian skin tones in real Indian heat and humidity.
For every product we recommend, we research service centre availability outside metros. A product with no support in Nagpur, Jaipur, or Coimbatore is a riskier buy for most Indian buyers. We note this explicitly.
We calculate and publish real annual ownership costs — filter replacements, blade wear, battery degradation. The purchase price is only part of what you spend.
