Buying Guide
How to Choose an Induction Cooktop for Indian Kitchens
Three factors that matter most for dal-sabzi-roti daily cooking.
1800W vs 2100W — is the difference real?
For daily dal and sabzi: 1800W is sufficient and gets to boiling in 6–8 minutes. The 2100W Philips shaves off 1–2 minutes per dish and handles deep frying at full power without heat fluctuation. If you cook 3+ times a day or need deep-frying capability, the extra ₹1,900 for 2100W is worth it. For occasional cooking, 1800W works fine.
Indian presets — more useful than you think
Presets for dal, rice, milk and curry automatically set the right temperature and cut power when done. This prevents dal from burning at the bottom and milk from boiling over. The Usha Cook Joy has 7 Indian-calibrated presets that remove the guesswork completely for common dishes. First-time induction users benefit most from this feature.
Voltage regulation matters in India
Indian power supply fluctuates between 180V and 250V, sometimes dramatically in Tier 2 and 3 cities. Most budget induction cooktops don't handle extreme low voltage and trip or burn out within 6 months. Look for "voltage regulation" or "auto voltage protection" in specs. The Pigeon Cruise and Usha Cook Joy both handle this well at their price points.
