Buying Guide
What to Know Before Buying a Budget Espresso Machine in India
Three things that determine whether a budget coffee maker is worth buying.
Bar pressure — why 3.5 bar is the minimum for real espresso
Espresso requires hot water forced through ground coffee under pressure. Under 3 bar, the water passes too slowly and produces weak, sour coffee. At 3.5 bar, you get genuine espresso with a crema layer — the golden foam on top. Drip coffee makers and filter machines below ₹2,000 don't produce crema at all. The Domestica Brewcraft at 3.5 bar is the most affordable true espresso machine in India.
Steam wand — the feature that makes lattes and cappuccinos possible
A steam wand heats and froths milk by forcing steam through it. Without a steam wand, you can only make plain espresso (30ml shots). With it, you can make latte (espresso + steamed milk), cappuccino (espresso + froth) and flat white. The Domestica Brewcraft has a built-in steam wand — rare at this price. Most ₹4,000 coffee makers are drip-only and don't froth milk.
Ground coffee vs pods — use ground for best value in India
Coffee pods (Nespresso, Dolce Gusto) cost ₹40–80 per cup. Premium ground Indian coffee brands like Blue Tokai, Sleepy Owl and Araku cost ₹4–8 per cup. The Domestica Brewcraft works with standard ground coffee — no proprietary pods needed. Buy 250g of freshly ground South Indian filter coffee or premium Arabica and get 40+ cups for the price of 5 pods.
