Buying Guide
How to Choose a Hand Blender for Indian Cooking
Three things that matter most — and what the specs don't tell you.
Wattage — 600W is the real minimum for Indian tasks
250W handles smoothies, lassi and thin soups without trouble. But Indian kitchens need more — chutney, dal tadka purée, dips from roasted vegetables, baby food from cooked legumes. These need 600W+. At 600W the motor doesn't overheat in 2-minute continuous runs; at 250W it does. If your daily use goes beyond drinks, start at 600W.
Attachments — a chopper bowl replaces a second appliance
A hand blender with only a blending shaft is useful, not complete. The multi-kit blenders at ₹1,729–₹2,499 include a mini chopper bowl (for chutney and dips), a whisk (for egg whites and cream), and a tall beaker. That chopper bowl is the critical add-on — it turns a single-task blender into a full food-prep kit that can sit on the counter instead of taking up shelf space.
Cleaning — detachable stainless steel shaft saves daily effort
Every hand blender says "easy to clean." In practice, only two design choices actually deliver: a fully detachable shaft that separates from the motor body (so the motor doesn't get wet), and a stainless steel blending foot rather than plastic (stainless doesn't stain from turmeric or tomato). Both are standard on good models at ₹893+. Avoid sealed non-detachable shafts — they collect residue and smell over time.
